Underground Railway Theatre presents Are You Ready, My Sister April 17th - 19th 2008
Are You Ready, My Sister? tells the exciting story of Harriet Tubman, and the Quaker women who helped her bring 300 fugitives to freedom. This historical adventure story is told by two actress/puppeteers using a giant patchwork quilt; as the plot unfolds, each square of the quilt comes to life with shadow-puppets and painted back-lit scenery. Besides providing a brilliantly colorful setting, the quilt is a metaphor of women's work and collaborations. The play features audience participation, dramatic scenes and live music based on the spirituals of the slave-era. Appropriate for adults and students grades 3-8.

Roxbury Film Festival July 28 - August 3, 2008
Roxbury Film Festival is the largest festival in New England dedicated to showcasing films that celebrate people of color. The festival offers opportunities for audiences to view these creative works and experience stories of meaning and impact often overlooked in mainstream media. While New England filmmakers of color are the focus of the festival, films by filmmakers from various backgrounds and other regions are also screened.
Roxbury Film Festival is co-sponsored by ACT Roxbury and The Color of Film Collaborative. ACT (Arts, Culture & Trade) Roxbury, a program of Madison Park Development Corporation, celebrates culture and the arts by using these resources as valuable assets to foster the physical, economic and social revitalization of Roxbury. This is the essential reason that we exists and the reason we continue to be an outlet for local and national independent filmmakers of color.
